especially jeff buckley's cover of 'hallelujah' and tori's cover of 'famous blue raincoat.'

'baby...i'm much stronger than you know...sometimes, i'm not afraid to let it show...'

that's from fire on the side. y kant tori read. yeah. tori was in a band called y kant tori read. but i really like that song. and cool on your island. hell. i like most of the stuff even though it's bad because it's still tori. just different.

i just sent someone an editorial checklist except that their manuscript was rejected. it just landed in the wrong pile and i wasn't attentive enough. so i had to send another email that was like, dude, sorry, just kidding, your manuscript was rejected, please disregard the previous email. man. that has to suck. i should have been paying more attention. i should always be paying more attention, though, i suppose.

i love shakespeare. it's just so amazing. i get the same way about faulkner. the way it's so beautiful to read it and the feeling you get from it is just so expansive and wonderful but then also the way you feel so small because you're standing in the shadow of someone so amazingly talented. genius. but the feeling small isn't a bad feeling. it's like you're lucky to be there at all.

chris has started posting scanned excerpts from his writing notebooks. you should check it out. good stuff. zarate offered to read through my book when i'm done with it. i'm not forgetting that offer. my favorite. what anna is willing to do.

reading a book of short stories by lydia da. titled 'break it down.' i think i am falling in love with short stories again. there was a time when i quit reading them. i don't really remember why. but when they're done well, they're just so beautiful. and it's necessary to capitalize on those occasions where you know you just might find something beautiful. if that makes sense.

a lot of things make far more sense inside my head than they do on the screen or on paper. but i guess that's true for everyone. has to be.

i think famous blue raincoat is maybe one of my favorite songs. what can i tell you, my brother, my killer, what can i possibly say? well, i guess that i miss you, i guess i forgive you, i'm glad you stood in my way...if you don't own the best of leonard cohen, you should fix that right away. remember suzanne? how lovely. all of that album. just lovely.
