at midnight all the lights go off at shepherd. it can be a real pain in the ass when you're ten feet from the light switch and your music's all over the floor. and then you go turn the light back on but it'll only stay on for five seconds and you memorize where all of your things are, hit the on button one more time, run and pick up all of your stuff, hit the on button one last time to make sure you got everything. sometimes i am sitting there playing and anticipating midnight, just watching the minutes pass, but inevitably midnight always catches me by surprise. like the music swallows me in those last two minutes or something. every time. we are learning how to play both hands on the harp at once. it's tricky. like trying to write different words with each hand at the same time. i think i practiced for almost two hours. my fingers are a little hurty.

today was a pretty alright day. was late for my 9:25. again. i can't really remember the last time i was on time for that class, though. it doesn't really matter, except that i miss the announcements at the beginning, which is no big deal most days. except today the announcement was that our research paper is now due a week later. i'm glad someone chose to share that with me. sort of. i think i'm still going to try to get it done by friday. the reason i never ask for extensions is because i like being done a whole lot more than having more time to do something.

i went to montessori school for kindergarten. jon and his dad laughed at me when i said montessori, but they wouldn't tell me why. apparently there's some joke that everyone's supposed to know about montessori, but i don't know it. anyway. so i went to montessori school and my best friend was named melanie. melanie schuler. and we were both friends with this boy named matt. matt zito. i used to watch transformers and everyone in my kindergarten class would tell me that it was a boy's cartoon and i wasn't supposed to watch it, but i never really cared. and then i'd call them deceptacons and move on with my life. ha ha. deceptacon.

melanie and i had a detective club. matt zito was in our detective club. we had this little toy owl from she-ra and it was this little magic 8-ball sorta thing. so we would use the 8-ball owl to make all of our top secret decisions. somewhere along the way matt developed a little crush on melanie. i was a little concerned that it would interfere with our detective club, but it worked out alright. one afternoon he kissed her on the cheek. she wasn't so much a fan of that so it never happened again. but it was cute. thinking back, they sorta remind me of macauley culkin and anna chlumsky (sp?) in my girl. the first my girl. where she's still cute. except melanie wore glasses, too, so it was even cuter.

melanie was totally a good best friend. she would make me these little mix tapes with like, minnie mouse songs and she would do these introductions and sing little songs and it was totally cute. i remember this one minnie mouse aerobics tape. good times. you have to say good times the way melissa says it, so if you don't know how she says it, just skip that part.

melanie went to a different elementary school than i did. matt zito and i went to the same schools until middle school. then he moved someplace up north. matt got detention in 8th grade for calling marc elmore a fag. i think he and adam rushefsky were also involved in putting pins in his play-doh or something. i don't know why there was play-doh. anyway, that was the only time matt zito ever got into trouble ever. everyone was shocked. it was pretty amusing.

marc elmore was on my odyssey of the mind team the one year i did OM. everything was cool until barry debakey (yes, grandson of dr. mike) totally got stuck on spontaneous. and our hopes of winning the OM championship went up in smoke. matt that i dated in high school (not zito) did odyssey of the mind with his friends like, eighteen years in a row. one year they got to go to el paso for the state finals. that was pretty cool.

today blake called from work at like, 8 to tell me about how he used some java applets to put in some servlet thing in some other -let thing to get through some corporate firewalls and proxy servers at this rather large publishing firm that i'm not supposed to tell anyone about because this client could be really important and it's still a secret right now, and not only did he get through their stuff so that the software would work, he did it WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE SECURITY OF THE PRODUCT! yeah, his coworkers were sure that he would have to create some sort of temp file that the client could access, but they're just not as wily as he is. blake gets very excited about doing clever things at work. it's funny because he'll tell me all day about how much he hates programming, but all i ever hear about is all the cool stuff he's figured out and how nice the company is and how he works 12 hour days 7 days a week but it's ok because he's got to figure stuff out and it's interesting and it's such a rush to solve problems and make things work. it's cute. i hope i love my job as much as he does even if i have to claim to hate it, too.

moby - guitar, flute, and strings and porcelain are my favorites.

go is a good movie.

chopin - lento con gran expressione. well, really, any chopin. i'm a sucker for the romantic period in general, but especially chopin in a minor key.
